It is estimated that one in ten people are Carers. A Carer's life
is not always easy, but it can also be rewarding. By caring for someone
you are helping to maintain their well-being, good health and independence
at home, usually where they are happiest in familiar surroundings.
Many people don't recognise themselves as being a Carer, they just
assume this is what they do everyday, and wouldn't have it any other
way.
If you are a Carer
You will know it can get tough looking after someone, so taking
a break is not only sensible, but also essential. You shouldn't
feel guilty by having some time to yourself, as it will allow you
to relax, recharge, and be better able to care for the person you
love or care about. Crossroads can help by providing a personalised
service in the Carer's absence allowing them a break.
Crossroads role
Our role is to prevent a breakdown in the health of the Carer.
We do this by providing an accessible, local, long term, regular
& reliable service. So that Carers gain a meaningful break we
do not visit for less than one hour, this affords the Carer real
long-term benefits. We are therefore not a crisis intervention service.
Who we are
Our Scheme was established in 1984, and is a registered charity
and a company limited by guarantee. From humble beginnings we now
deliver more than 30,000 hours of care cover each year to support
Carers in the city. We are fortunate to be backed by a Committee
of voluntary Trustees who offer their time, experience, and skills
that ensure our service exceeds the legal requirements set by the
Charity Commission, the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI)
and Statutory Authority standards.
With over 170 other Crossroads Schemes in England & Wales (who
are individually registered charities in their own right) we are
part of a national service supporting Carers. Separate Crossroads
organisations also exist in Scotland & Northern Ireland.
Crossroads Mission Statement
To promote, offer, support and deliver high quality services for
Carers and people with care needs.
Crossroads Core Values
Crossroads considers that Carers should be entitled to practical
support to reduce the stress of caring, giving Carers time to be
themselves.
